Calm reigns in São Vicente, a small island in Cape Verde, from where most of its inhabitants have never left. Tchinda is one of the most beloved women, especially since 1998, when she came out as a transsexual in a local magazine. His name has become a colloquial and affectionate way to name all non-heterosexual people in Cape Verde. Tchinda is 35 years old and every evening sell her coxinhas (Brazilian popular donuts) on the streets. Once the Carnival arrived, São Vicente becomes a “Little Brazil”, as described Cesaria Evora(1941-2011), their most beloved singer, in one of her mornas. Her music and ‘tchindas’ will guide us through a fascinating journey to an unknown corner of Africa that few could never imagine.
