ZG Hedapena was founded in 2005 with the aims of expanding the scope of Zinegoak and
facilitating access to works with LGBTQIA+ themes outside of the usual cultural circuits, while
creating meeting spaces and spaces for collective reflection.
It brings LGBTQIA+ works in their original version, subtitled in Basque and Spanish, to different
parts of the Basque Country, and is a key tool for the Zinegoak Association in its work against
LGBTQIA+ phobias.
Numerous screenings of short and full-length films are offered thanks to the support of
Berdindu!, the Basque Government’s Information and Assistance Service, and of the Provincial
Council of Biscay, and thanks to the involvement of various institutions, town councils and
associations.
In the last five years, more than 64 towns have participated in ZG Hedapena, hosting more
than 300 screenings. A total of 47 towns are participating in 2026, with some 50 screenings
planned for May and June.
This year, participating works will again compete for the ZG Hedapena Award, which includes a
cash prize of 800 euros. The winner will be chosen by a jury of three people from rural areas of
the Basque Country.
We would like to thank all the municipalities that participate in ZG Hedapena for their
commitment and support, and we invite you to your nearest participating town to enjoy some
of our screenings.
We hope you enjoy your shared experience of film and diversity.
